    In this role, you will be responsible for designing and creating engaging and compelling learning activities and content in conjunction with key stakeholders; and for technology solutions used to deliver the General Education curriculum to the students and faculty of Chamberlain University using primarily online teaching methods supported in a Learning Management System (LMS).

     

    With a heavy emphasis on interactive and multimedia technology-driven components, this role requires extensive collaboration between content, course development, and educational technology colleagues and teams to apply best practices of instructional design to create high-quality and innovative courses for our students.  You will partner with colleagues to research new instructional technologies, assess their effectiveness, recommend products for adoption, and facilitate the implementation of selected technologies.

    You will develop and disseminate course design standards, provide course-level and/or project-level management support to development efforts, and measure and analyze course effectiveness and usability across the curriculum.

     

    You will act as mentor, coach, and champion for integrating strong instructional design processes within content development and course development teams.

    Responsibilities

    • Conduct needs assessment, identify learner gaps, analyze data, and make recommendations for content enhancements and/or improvements to further increase learner engagement and close learner gaps.
    • Advise and assist the curriculum authors and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in the most appropriate use of educational media and technology tools to enhance instruction and create new and engaging learning environments.
    • Work closely with Associate Deans, subject matter experts, and key stakeholders to manage and support the design and development of online course material, including interactive and multimedia technology-driven components.
    • Work closely with subject matter experts to develop storyboards and related instructional elements for incorporation into the courses.
    • Communicate regularly and professionally with entire development team.
    • Collaborate with colleagues in developing tools and templates for instructional development and present recommendations to leadership.
    • Collaborate with course development colleagues in developing, continually refining, and disseminating standards and best practices for instructional design and development of instructional media and present recommendations to leadership.
    • Mentor and coach members of the instructional design team and course development team.
    • Train subject matter experts and new hires.
    • Lead efforts to analyze course effectiveness and usability across an entire academic program, college, or institution.
    • Research and stay current with emerging educational technologies.
    • Manage the selection, implementation, maintenance, and on-going evaluation of new instructional technology to deliver the General Education curriculum.
    • Manage a document repository for online courses including course maps, syllabi, templates for learning platform and specific course materials. 
    • Maintain repository with user friendly file nomenclature and insures that shared documents are consistently updated.
    • Manage quality of courses through maintenance, major corrections and repairs.
    • Involve stakeholders, including faculty, in selecting or designing and evaluating instructional materials to meet student learning needs.
    • Monitor professional research and disseminate new ideas, information and best practices to others.
    • Ensure the use of appropriate technology in the teaching-learning process by evaluating and selecting technology to help students meet learning needs.
    • Obtain and use evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to examine effectiveness of technologies used to deliver the curriculum.
    • Conduct research and consult with leadership and instructional design representatives in the selection and use of instructional technology.
    • Review/assess current curriculum to ensure that technologies in use are supporting student achievement of course outcomes.
    • Make recommendations for technology based course and/or curriculum improvement on an annual basis, based on use-evaluations data
    • Work with the Center for Faculty Excellence and Curriculum & Instruction Developers to assist faculty in implementing new instructional technology.
    • Pursue opportunities to continue to learn best practices in curriculum development and implementation through research, professional development, and other learning opportunities.

    • A Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution
    • Five years of teaching experience required, including a minimum of two years online teaching experience
    • Five years of experience designing online courses, preferably in a higher education context.
    • Online course development and maintenance experience required; experience working with Canvas (or another LMS) required
    • Knowledge of current techniques and procedures used in the design, development, and delivery of curriculum and instruction
    • Demonstrated experience implementing instructional design principles and best practices into content development, preferably for distance learning
    • Experience working with faculty to design, deliver, implement and maintain curriculum projects
    • Experience conducting needs assessments, analyzing data, learning outcome assessments, and using data to make recommendations
    • Experience incorporating technology and media to enhance instruction and improve learning
    • Experience with current and emerging learning, communication, and collaboration technologies
    • Working knowledge of MS Office is required
    • Working knowledge of Adobe products is highly desirable.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and personal accountability; consultative approach to problem solving
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced and professional deadline-driven environment with many projects and initiatives.
    • Comfortable making decisions and judgment calls on content development.
    • Experience with competency or adaptive is highly desirable
    • Excellent project management skills
    • Demonstration of application of active learning strategies through use of instructional technology in prior teaching experiences.
    • Ability to work effectively and productively in a remote location
    • Experience and certifications with one or more of the following is preferred
    • Learning Management Systems
    • Electronic Assessment applications
    • Multimedia and audio visual technologies
    • Project Lifecycle methodology
