This course is designed to expand the scope of the nursing practice for senior nursing students. Course and clinical activities provided to traditional students focus on leadership and management aspects of the professional nurse. The emphasis is on the role of the nurse in providing nursing care within the healthcare setting. A variety of populations and settings are used in the experiential learning component of this course.
This synthesis course requires seniors to demonstrate mastery of knowledge learned in general education as well as nursing courses. The course facilitates the student’s transition into professional nursing through an exploration of trends and issues in professional nursing and participation in experiential-based nursing experiences. This culminating clinical practicum focuses on refining skills in the delivery and management of nursing care within the context of legal, ethical and evidence-based practice. A comprehensive nursing program review is embedded in this course to support mastery of essential nursing content for beginning practice as a registered nurse.
